If hell is infinte, what purpose would it serve?

they would serve no purpose to god suffering eternally, it seems the merciful thing to do would be just to destroy them (or make it so they were never born if god is all knowing) hell would be like gods trash can where he throws its waste. whatever you could learn from infinite torture would be wasted and purposeless
